Popular Dubai restaurant Akiba Dori to open in Jeddah

Wait until you try their amazing Japanese-style pizzas…

There have been a small handful of restaurants that bravely opened in KSA during the pandemic, but the new year will certainly bring many more. One restaurant that we’re extremely excited about is Dubai homegrown hero Akiba Dori.

You’ve heard of Neapolitan pizza, Chicago-style pizza and New York-style pizza. But you might not have encountered Tokyo-style pizza before – that’s exactly what you’ll find at Akiba Dori, and much more.

Opening in The House Hotel Jeddah courtesy of celebrated restaurateur Samer Hamadeh, the foodhall-style restaurant is inspired by the backstreets of Akihabara in Japan’s capital city of Tokyo. The space will also be home to a pizzeria named Tokypolitan, serving signature Tokyo-style Neapolitan pizzas.

If Akiba Dori’s KSA branch follows the same lilt as Dubai, then expect to find a menu split into salads, street food, specials and baked goods, with a separate “Tokyopolitan” pizza menu. We suspect high praise for the pizzas, which use Japanese flour, salt, and wisdom (Akiba Dori’s chefs were sent to Tokyo to train with one of Japan’s top pizza makers). The dough is baked in a wood-fired oven at 500 degrees for just under a minute.

Our UAE What’s On reporters wax lyrical about the 5 Formaggi, which is topped with a swirl of acacia honey. The sweetness of the honey cut through the salty cheese beautifully. An unexpected match made in heaven.

Akiba Dori Jeddah is expected to open in 2021.
