Chicken and waffles may seem to be a bizarre combo to some. However, the delish duo – traditionally made up of fluffy waffles and crunchy buttermilk fried chicken – is the perfect sweet-savoury combination and best eaten with lashings of sweet maple syrup.

This homegrown cafe may be known for its coffee, but its interiors are super chic, and the food is also immaculate. We recommend its take on the fried chicken and waffle covered with creamy demi glace. The waffle is a crisp, rectangular grid with a soft, barely sweet interior that creates an ideal texture contrast to the tender chicken – delish.

Sinful Southern treats are aplenty at Buttermilk, including cornbread, buttermilk biscuits, shrimp and grits, and the house’s speciality of juicy fried chicken served atop thick waffles. What’s not to like? Buttermilk has also relocated to the Al Mohammadiyyah district. The fact that it features its own Buttermilk Bakery, making fresh bread, pies and other pastries in-house, is already a pull factor.
