Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale 2024 is officially happening

Dates have just been announced…

If you’re a big art buff, you’ll have likely heard of or even seen the incredible first biennale in Saudi Arabia, and now it’s headed right back. That’s right, the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale 2024 is happening.

The second edition of the major art event will be happening starting February 20, 2024 in Diriyah’s at gorgeous art district, JAX.

The biennale aims to be a platform for global dialogue and exchange between Saudi Arabia and the world.

Established in 2020 by the Ministry of Culture, the Diriyah Biennale Foundation produces Saudi Arabia’s first-ever art biennales including the Islamic Art Biennale and of course the Diriyah Contemporary Art Biennale.

Inspired by the constant changes happening in Saudi Arabia, the foundation aims to nurture creative expression and instil an appreciation for culture, the arts, and their transformative power. Diriyah Biennale Foundation serves as a catalyst for discovery and serves the country’s communities by offering opportunities to engage with the burgeoning local art scene.

Earlier this year, the country also hosted its first Islamic Arts Biennale in Jeddah, it became the world’s most significant showcase of contemporary and historic works of Islamic art.

The Islamic Biennale highlighted the beauty and diversity of the Muslim experience, featuring carefully curated artworks about daily rituals and the Hajj, as well as treasures from The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque (Haramain Authority).

The first edition of the Contemporary Biennale was a massive hit. Taking place in JAX Diriyah, the event was held from December 11 to March 11, 2022, and showcased works from more than 70 regional and international artists.
