Joan’s On Third Riyadh will become your go-to if you like deli-style sandwiches

Joan’s on Third, the popular Los Angeles marketplace and cafe that Joan McNamara opened as a small catering kitchen, has debuted its first location in Saudi Arabia.
Located in Via Riyadh, the luxurious new address in Riyadh, Joan’s on Third is an ample marketplace-like space with a few different counters and a handful of communal seating.
Marking the brand’s first international move, the Riyadh outlet reflects the LA outpost’s most distinctive features, including the neighbourhood-friendly atmosphere, casual and rustic décor, and an open kitchen at the heart of the bright, airy cafe.
Joan’s on Third serves up everything from soups, pastries, salads, sandwiches, and sides like crisps, Szechuan green beans, and pickles, alongside freshly brewed coffee and fresh juices.
The menu here is meant to be simple, and that’s part of Joan’s charm – once you’ve been here a couple of times, you nail your order, and you’re probably never changing it again. You’ll eat that tuna salad every time you’re here, and honestly, it doesn’t really matter if it’s sublime or mediocre.
But… the food here is fine. Sandwiches are the way to go – they’re simple, made with quality ingredients, and won’t have you looking for a snack an hour after you eat. The ficelle sandwich with veal ham and brie cheese and the maple chicken sandwich are worth a try, while vegetarians will enjoy the grilled cheese on white toast bread.
There are also mains like macaroni and cheese, chicken Milanese, grilled maple rosemary chicken breast, as well as salmon and pasta of the day.
Also, expect a cool marketplace vibe at Joan’s on Third. You’ll find an abundance of hand-packed products available to grab and go – from a variety of bottled fruit juices and ground coffee, veggie and potato crisps and candies to an extensive selection of freshly baked pastries and desserts at the bakery counter and an ice cream bar.

There’s also music playing in the background, but it doesn’t blare, and there’s a feeling you could crack open your laptop (which we did, anyway) and stay for an hour or two without anyone minding.
Breakfast is in the plans for later this year, but for now, head here for the Nutella loaf bread and peach scones, and of course, if you like sandwiches, Joan’s on Third will quickly become your go-to.
