Cinema Nights are back at Diriyah Biennale this weekend

Cinephiles, listen up. Diriyah Biennale’s coveted Cinema Nights are back this weekend. and here’s everything you need to know about the return.

Starting on Thursday April 18 at Diriyah’s hip JAX District, the Red Sea Film Festival and Diriyah Biennale Foundation have come together to bring the cultural cinema nights back to our screens.

The very first edition of the event happened in Jeddah back in 2021. Known for its exclusive showings of Saudi features and short films in a variety of genres to celebrate up-and-coming local and international actors, the cinema nights are currently back for their second edition. After the movies, you can also take part in a Q&A session with each director.

The first screening will see ‘Nocturnes’ on Thursday April 18. A hypnotic documentary about moths unfolds climate change concerns as well. Tickets have already been released and cost SAR35, you can buy yours here.

Next week, on Thursday April 25, you can see ‘After the Long Rains’ which is set in Kenya, and follows the story of the dreams of a ten-year-old girl, Aisha, who wants to travel to Europe and become and actress.

The most anticpated movie to be screened will be ‘Norah’ which will happening on Thursday May 2. The film, which is set in a rural town in Saudi Arabia in the 1990s, centres on a young woman who uses art to try to find freedom.

On Thursday May 16, we can look forward to watching Thiiird. The plot depicts the day-to-day hardships of several characters who work at a struggling Beirut garage. Lastly, we’ll be seeing ‘Iraq’s Invisible Beauty’ on Thursday May 23. It’s a documentary dedicated to the father of Iraqi photography.
