First look: Meet Meats & Cuts, Riyadh’s new boutique butcher shop

Not your usual butcher shop, this one comes with a dry-ageing room…

Forget the deli section of the big supermarkets; it’s always worth finding an independent quality butcher to supply the protein for your mid-week meals and weekend feasts.

Good news for meat lovers. A new meat merchant has just arrived in Riyadh.

Home to one of the most beautiful interiors you will see in any butcher, premium meat boutique Meats & Cuts is perhaps the first butcher shop to display its wares as fine art rather than mere produce, having created a veritable meat gallery in the As Sulimaniyah district.

Luxe in detail and spatially generous, its interior is defined by its varied material palette, which includes Japanese bamboo green with black and gold for elegance and subtle white and gold accents. Here, it’s not just the beef that’s marbled but also the countertop.

The 2,200-square-foot venue has created a space that is as engaging to behold as any patisserie or delicatessen.

Central to the space are three solid timber butchers’ blocks, shielded by a glass screen, where butchers will demonstrate their craft. The upscale butchery also features a BBQ smoker and a charcuterie counter.

Meats & Cuts

The highlight of Meats & Cuts? A dedicated floor-to-ceiling glass-encased dry ageing room, complete with stacks of Himalayan salt bricks (which you can also purchase), greets you as you walk into the store.

Never heard of dry-aged meat? Hardly surprising as it’s always been basically impossible to come across in Saudi Arabia. Until now, that is.

Meats & Cuts is the first of its kind in Riyadh, offering ready-to-purchase dry-aged steaks for immediate cooking. A process whereby meat is stored under particular conditions for anywhere between a couple of weeks and several months, the result is a richer flavour and more tender texture than its fresh-cut counterparts.

Not only can patrons purchase the fresh produce, but they can also choose to dry age their purchased steaks here.

Meats & Cuts

Moreover, what you won’t find at Meats & Cuts is your traditional butcher’s counter. But it’s all about what’s inside those glass-fronted display cabinets – a collection of meats showcased like a carefully curated art gallery.

When you buy from Meats & Cuts, you can trust that you’re getting some of the finest meat from Australia. The selection includes porterhouse, rib eye, tomahawk steak, picanha steak, lamb, organic chicken, and a variety of handcrafted sausages with natural sheep casing.

Beyond the fresh meat, the store houses a well-stocked pantry, which includes everything from handcrafted, non-preservative cold cuts and mortadella to a selection of sizzling spices, sauces, and oils and an array of artisanal cheeses to add to your charcuterie board.

What we also love about Meats & Cuts is the personal and intimate shopping experience, so customers feel comfortable and important. If you don’t know where to begin, their fully women-operated front sales team can guide you on the wide range of products on display, their quality and origin. Unsure about how to cook your meat? Advice and tips come free with every purchase.

Their charcuterie team can also help pair cheese with honey, jam or cold cuts to advise on the perfect pairing of flavours for the ultimate experience.

For special occasions, they are also available for catering – just ask for Chef Bob Tabet. And soon, there will be a gourmet deli so you can stop in for a quick cold cut sub.
