An agreement was signed between Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) and Google to launch the mobile payment service Google Pay in Saudi Arabia by this year, 2025, through the national payment system mada.

The mobile payment service was first launched in May 2011 as Google Wallet and then relaunched in 2015 as Android Pay. The final version was released in January 2018, bringing all the previous features together under Google Pay. As of 2025, it is available in 92 countries all over the world.

Google Pay in Saudi Arabia will provide users with an advanced and secure method for making purchases in stores, apps, and on the web. Users will also be able to conveniently add and manage their cards within Google Wallet. Users can verify their payments via a PIN, passcode, or biometrics such as 3D face scanning or fingerprint recognition.

This agreement showcases SAMA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the Kingdom’s digital payments ecosystem as part of Saudi Vision 2030. It also shows the bank’s commitment to developing a digital payments infrastructure, making the transition to a less cash-dependent society by offering advanced digital payment solutions that meet international standards.

This initiative is part of a broader series of solutions aimed at meeting market demands and strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position as a global leader in FinTech. Although, the exact date for the launch is yet to be revealed, stay tuned to What’s On Saudi Arabia, for the latest.
