When is the next public holiday in Saudi Arabia?
It’ll be here before you know it…
There is nothing quite like public holidays in Saudi Arabia, and although the next one is a bit of a wait, we think it will be worth the wait. If you’re anything like us, you’re possibly wondering when the first one is going to roll around, this is the place to be.
Public holidays in Saudi Arabia are times to celebrate with tonnes of going out, festive vibes, and usually fireworks, so it’s safe to say they are occasions to remember. So, if you’re after when the next public holiday in Saudi Arabia is, you’ve come to the right place.
The next public holiday is set to be early next year for *drum roll please* Founding Day on Saturday February 22. And although the holiday falls on a weekend already, we might still be able to get a day off before or after the Saturday in question.
As in the past, we will have to wait for the official announcement from the Saudi Arabian authorities. The holiday announcement usually comes a week or so before the day, and we will surely announce it as soon as we get confirmation.
What is Saudi Founding Day?
The Founding Day commemorates the three centuries of the existence of the Saudi state, highlighting its historical and civilisational depth, celebrating its diverse cultural heritage, and expressing devotion to the Imams, Kings, and citizens who serve the nation. When it was first announced in 2022, the royal order also stated that this would enable the public to celebrate Muhammad bin Saud’s successors.
Ancestors of the Saudi royal family first settled alongside Wadi Hanifah in the 15th century, founding the city of Diriyah in 1446. But it was the determination of Imam Muhammad bin Saud in 1727 to oversee the expansion of Diriyah from a city-state to a nation-state, conquering territories in central Arabia and uniting them under his family’s rule.
