The Saudi Council of Ministers approved key amendments to a number of articles of the Labor Law to create a more attractive work environment. These are the Saudi Labor Law changes that you need to know about.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development stated that the new amendments encompass 38 articles deleting seven articles, and adding two new articles to the Labor Law.

The new amendments are now effective. The aim according to Saudi Gazette improve the labour market in the Kingdom, enhance job stability, preserve the rights of parties to the contractual relationship, enhance training opportunities for workers, and increase job opportunities for citizens.
New definitions for resignation and assignment were added; there’s also been an extension of maternity leave from ten weeks to 12 weeks, and the introduction of paid leave as compensation for overtime work. As it pertains to maternity leave, six weeks are mandatory after delivery, and the remaining six can be taken at the employee’s discretion.

The new laws also allow for paid bereavement (three days) for the loss of a sibling, revising training contracts increased flexibility for non-Saudi workers, and clearly defined probationary periods of 180 days.
Additionally, the law outlines resignation procedures and modifies contract termination notice periods. The termination notice period for indefinite contracts has been increased to 30 days if initiated by the employee, and 60 days if initiated by the company.
