What is Eid Al-Fitr?
Also known as the Festival of Sweets, the holiday marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.
Eid Al-Fitr also marks the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal as it falls on the first day of Shawwal.
The holiday is distinguished by a particular prayer that consists of two rakats (parts) which will only be performed in congregation and features additional seven takbirs (raising of the hands to the ears while saying “Allāhu Akbar).
