Will Sports Boulevard in Riyadh become the world’s longest park?

It is estimated to stretch over 135 kilometres across Riyadh…

When the first phase of Sports Boulevard in Riyadh was launched a few months ago, it was a truly refreshing and inviting space for the community… and it still remains so.

Sports Boulevard runs through Riyadh from east to west. About 40 per cent of the site is now open, including the Prince Turki underpass, which was opened late last year.

Here are some updates on the construction of various elements at the Sports Boulevard project, which was announced at the recent MEED Saudi Giga Projects Summit in Riyadh, held at The Venue by ROSHN Group.

The Sports Boulevard Foundation has confirmed that the design phase for the 130-metre-tall Global Sports Tower, which will be built in the Sports Boulevard development, is now complete. The construction is scheduled to begin next year.

The 84,000-square-metre facility will host over 30 different sports disciplines, including the world’s tallest indoor climbing wall at 98 metres and a 250-metre running track.

Once complete, the broader Sports Boulevard will become the world’s longest linear park, stretching over 135 kilometres across Riyadh. The project will be spread across different districts within the park, with a series of iconic buildings placed in each district.

Other destinations planned for the development include the Sands Sports Park, amphitheatres, the Centre for Cinematic Arts, the Arts District, the Discovery Park and Wadi Ajyasen.

The large-scale project aims to transform the cityscape of central Riyadh, which is currently dominated by major highways, into a recreational area.
