Al-Hilal will not be taking part in the upcoming Saudi Super Cup

The team revealed its decision today

Current reigning champions of the Saudi Super Cup, Al-Hilal, have announced that they will no longer be participating in the Saudi Super Cup. This is everything you need to know about Al-Hilal leaving the Saudi Super Cup 2025.

Announced through an official letter sent to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), Al-Hilal detailed the reasons why the team would not be joining in on the Saudi Super Cup next month.

The club explained that the Saudi Super Cup draw, held on June 19, took place just one day after Al Hilal’s opening match in the group stage of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, against Real Madrid.

After which the Saudi club advanced to the Round of 16 and subsequently the Quarterfinals, continuing its commendable performance until July 4. The players were then unable to fly back to their home base due to airline restrictions. The squad had to stay in Orlando for three more days after that game.

As a result, the players’ annual leave was cut to just 24 days in the case that they withdrew and to 21 days if the team played in the Super Cup. This violates clause (5.6) of the mandatory contracts included in the annexes of the Professionalism and Player Status Regulations issued by SAFF, which clearly states that players are entitled to a minimum of 28 days of annual leave—a condition already included in all professional player contracts of Al Hilal’s first team.

Another reason for Al-Hilal leaving the Saudi Super Cup 2025 was location issues too. The club stated that the Super Cup’s Hong Kong location was only announced on June 13. By then, Al Hilal’s delegation had already been in the United States, and none of their matches had yet taken place. So at that time, it was also unclear when their international matches would end.
