Riyadh's traffic problem may finally have a solution

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It’s a flying eCopter

In the country’s most recent move in introducing flying taxis into daily transportation, Saudi Arabia will be producing several thousand eCopters. Check out FlyNow eCopters in Saudi Arabia.

FlyNow Aviation’s electric air vehicles, all of which will carry the “Saudi Made” label, according to FlyNow Aviation’s co-founder and chief operating officer, Yvonne Winter, reported by Arab News.

The company has already begun construction on the assembly plant and will start the production of the cargo version in 2027. The plan is for the eCopters to be functional by 2030. Come time for Riyadh Expo 2030, the eCopters are expected to transport the public to and from the sites without the hassle of Riyadh traffic (if you know, you know).

“Additionally, test operations (sandbox flights) are planned for 2025 in Saudi Arabia to adapt the technology to local conditions,” Winter told Arab News.

FlyNow Aviation’s goal is to make 3D mobility affordable for all people. Their belief is that an inner-city flight should cost no more than a normal taxi ride on the same route.

eCopters are considered eVTOLs, i.e. electric Vertical Take Off & Landing Vehicle. That’s how EASA defines it and represents a new category in the sky.

Prior to this development, just last year, the Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser said that we would be seeing the debut of flying taxis in Saudi Arabia very soon, during the Hajj season. Once ready, the pilgrims will have the unique experience of benefiting from the service of flying taxis and drones in upcoming Hajj seasons.
