These are you guidelines to make it through summer in Riyadh
Stay safe
Riyadh is currently going through one of the worst summers (I say this every summer). And if you’re wondering how we’re coping with the weather, we’ve got all the guidelines to make it through summer in Riyadh.
- Drink water (a bit obvious, I know, however, this is a must)
- Limit caffeine intake (now you may be thinking I’ve gone mad, but a lot of caffeine may lead to you feeling more dehydrated).
- Wear appropriate clothing while adhering to modesty guidelines (it’s best to opt for loose-fitting and light-coloured clothes).
- Limit sun exposure by avoiding going outside during peak hours (so basically until 5pm)
- Invest in a good sunscreen (take it from me, I have a meltdown every time I forget my three fingerfuls).
- Sun accessories are your best friends (I’m talking sunglasses, umbrellas, and more)
- Taking breaks to catch your breath
- Embrace more indoor activities
- Opt for lighter, healthier meals (heavier foods might slow you down and cause dehydration).
Astronomically, summer is expected to last a full 93 days, 15 hours, and 37 minutes (very precise, we know), which falls on Tuesday September 23. Though it was pointed out that it is important to differentiate between astronomical summer and climatic summer. Experts predicted the climatic summer to begin on Sunday June 1, and continue until Sunday August 31.
We’re in for a long summer out here in Saudi Arabia, so check out your ultimate guides on what to do indoors in Riyadh and Jeddah to beat the heat.
Currently, Riyadh is even going through a major heatwave. The extreme weather conditions are expected to continue until the end of the week, according to the National Centre for Meteorology.
