For the first-time ever: Saudi Arabia to make its entry into the Oscars
The country will be a part of the 98th Academy Awards
It’s no secret that we are a movie-loving, creative, and talented people. Having spent my entire life in Saudi Arabia, I can honestly say the country oozes creativity and culture at every twist and turn, and it makes me beyond happy to see the country thrive at every international platform there is. Now we’ll see Saudi Arabia at the Oscars too.
The Saudi Film Commission has now opened submissions for filmmakers to put forward their works for consideration as Saudi Arabia’s entry to the 98th Academy Awards in the International Feature Film Award category.

Just announced this week, the Film Commission announced the official rules, eligibility criteria, and the selection process for the Kingdom’s submission to fully align with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences regulations.
Eligibility criteria
Films that are eligible will go under a committee review and voting to choose a film that best showcases Saudi Arabia. To qualify, films must be feature-length (over 40 minutes), predominantly in a non-English language (over 50 per cent), and include accurate English subtitles.
Submission materials
According to Saudi Gazette, creative control must be predominantly in the hands of Saudi citizens, residents, or individuals with recognised refugee or asylum status. Required submission materials include:
- A digital upload of the film and a secure, password-protected viewing link
- Full cast and credits list in English
- Director’s biography and photograph
- A designated key frame for display artwork
- Proof of qualifying theatrical release and advertisements
