Saudi Arabia is actually home to the world's longest straight road

It stretches from Haradh to Al Batha

I don’t know about you, but I actually never knew that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is home to the world’s longest stretch of straight road. This is everything we know about the world’s longest straight road in Saudi Arabia.

The particular stretch of road begins in Haradh, which is a large town and industrial city in the Al-Ahsa Governorate of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia.

The road, Highway 10, further connects to Highway 75 and then to Highway 95 in the west of Saudi Arabia. The road is 240 kilometres (149 mi) long.

It cuts through the desert with no bends left or right or any appreciable gradient up or down. The super-straight stretch has an estimated driving time of around two hours and cuts through the vast Rub’ al Khali desert, also known as the Empty Quarter. The road was originally built as a private road for King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The road surpassed Australia’s Eyre Highway, which has a 146-kilometre (91-mi) straight section. This revelation marks a significant milestone in the realm of transportation infrastructure.

The record was announced back in 2024. When driving in or around the area, drivers are warned against driving recklessly due to the featureless, straight nature of the road.
