Saudi Arabia trials drone parcel delivery in Jeddah
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, (it’s… better), it’s a package
This past weekend, under the patronage of Vice Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Acting President of the Transport General Authority (TGA), Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, drone parcel delivery in Jeddah was trialled for the very first time.
The pioneering trial for parcel delivery using unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) was conducted in Jeddah through a joint agreement between the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and the Transport General Authority (TGA).

The drone parcel delivery in Jeddah initiative is part of a bigger push by the transport and logistics ecosystem to modernise the postal sector. GACA was responsible for aviation-related operations and regulations, while the TGA looked after the postal sector’s regulatory framework and supportive legislation.
Al-Rumaih stressed that the introduction of drone technology is a significant jump for the parcel delivery sector. This step is expected to open up new opportunities for expanding services and developing new solutions, aligning with the Kingdom’s digital transformation goals.
GACA Executive Vice President for Aviation Safety and Environmental Sustainability, Captain Suleiman Al-Muheimidi, commented that the drone delivery trial is a real breakthrough for logistics in the Kingdom.
The new move comes as a way to lead to faster, more sustainable, and innovative solutions and is supported by GACA’s advanced regulatory frameworks that ensure drone operations meet the highest safety and quality standards according to the Saudi Press Authority.
The new initiative comes after the country launched new food delivery robots, self-driving taxis, and more. The country is quickly moving towards tech advancement like no other, and we cannot wait to see what’s next.
