It’s time to look up. Saudi Arabia will be witnessing its longest total lunar eclipse since 2018, and if you want in, you need to read on to know how to watch the Blood Moon in KSA today.

The Earth will experience a total lunar eclipse today, according to the Saudi Press Authority, which will be visible to the naked eye in Saudi Arabia, other Arab countries, most of Asia, Australia, and parts of Europe and Africa.

Blood Moon in KSA

In Saudi Arabia, avid viewers will be able to look up and observe the eclipse starting from 6.27pm, the total lunar eclipse will be fully visible across the Kingdom.

According to another report by the Saudi Press Authority, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) Professor Dr. ‏Zaki Al-Mostafa‏ explained that a lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is positioned between the sun and the moon, causing the moon to pass into the Earth’s shadow.

This phenomenon is safe to view with the naked eye and can be seen from anywhere on the night side of the Earth.

Phases of the eclipse

According to Arab News, at 6.27pm, the moon will first enter the penumbral shadow. After which, the partial phase begins at 7.27pm, followed by the total eclipse at 8.30pm, which will last until 9.53pm The entire eclipse concludes at 11.57pm.
Peak viewing time is 10.12pm before out fading at 10.53pm. Another notable viewing time is 9.30pm, which is when the moon turns the deepest shade of red.

Where to watch

Unlike the UAE, there aren’t any major watch groups chasing the eclipse, however, desert spots outside the cities of Riyadh, Jeddah, AlUla, etc would be a pretty perfect way to go, but the gorgeous blood moon would be pretty visible at nearby parks, balconies, and more.
