The countdown begins: BIE flag handed over to Saudi Arabia for Expo 2030 Riyadh

And so it begins

The showstopping Expo 2025 has just ended in Osaka, Japan, and with that, it’s the beginning of a new era in World Expo history. To us (forgive us for being biased), it may as well be the beginning of the best era yet. Welcome to Expo 2030 Riyadh.

The Minister of State and CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, Eng. Ibrahim Al-Sultan, was handed the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) flag during the closing ceremony of Expo 2025 Osaka, marking the official transfer of host duties.

Announced during the final days of Expo 2025 in Osaka, the countdown to Expo 2030 in Riyadh officially began with a gorgeous cultural showcase featuring top Saudi and Japanese performers.

The vision for Expo 2030

Expo 2030 Riyadh

Set to be held under the theme ‘Foresight for Tomorrow,’ Expo 2030 Riyadh will empower participants to reimagine a better world. Expo 2030 Riyadh’s master plan prioritises ecological regeneration, walkability, and adaptive reuse, ensuring long-term benefits.

Divided into five districts, we’re looking forward to seeing the sustainable solutions district, the prosperous people district, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia district, the transformational technology district, and the global collaboration district, too.

Expo 2030 Riyadh will be one of the largest Expos ever, held on a six-million-square-metre site. The site is designed to welcome over 40 million visitors through world-class infrastructure, hospitality venues, and cutting-edge facilities.  The site will ensure an unforgettable experience for all participants and visitors, with a target of more than 195 participating nations.

Inspired by patterns found in nature, the site’s layout is meant to optimise connectivity, enhance walkability, and ensure efficient visitor movement.
