A high-speed rail is all set to connect Riyadh and Jeddah
The journey will take four hours
Saudi Arabia is currently building a USD7 billion high-speed rail project that will link the Red Sea to the Arabian Gulf, from Jeddah to Riyadh in under four hours. Meet the Land Bridge high-speed rail.
According to Gulf News, reported by Okaz, the initiative aims to connect the Kingdom’s major cities and redefine the future of transport and trade across the Arabian Peninsula
Known as the “Land Bridge,” the new train, lovingly called a “desert miracle,” will run from Jeddah on the Red Sea to Dammam on the Gulf via Riyadh and take over nearly 1,500 kilometres of rail.
Once finished, the Land Bridge high-speed rail project will decrease travel time between Riyadh and Jeddah by nearly eight hours. Previously, the journey would be about 12 hours long by car; the project would connect the two cities by a four-hour train ride.
The project aims to expand the Saudi railway network from 5,300 kilometres to over 8,000 kilometres. Making big moves to modernise the rail system, the Saudi Arabian Railways has ordered 15 new trains that can go up to 200 kilometres per hour.

Another high-speed rail coming to the Kingdom
Qiddiya High-Speed Rail
The Qiddiya High-Speed Rail project aims to link key destinations, such as King Salman International Airport (KSIA), the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), and Qiddiya City. It will significantly reduce travel time between these major landmarks, offering a swift, comfortable, and efficient journey. This will be achieved through a high-speed rail line capable of reaching speeds of up to 250 kilometres per hour, therefore, shortening travel times between these destinations to just 30 minutes.
