This palace in Diriyah turns history into an immersive experience you want to visit
Step inside Hal Al-Qusoor, where light, sound and storytelling bring one of Diriyah’s most prominent figures back to life
If you think history is just dusty facts and silent corridors, Hal Al-Qusoor is about to change your mind.
Nestled within the stunning Prince Thunayyan bin Saud bin Mohammed bin Miqrin Palace in the southwestern part of the historic At-Turaif District, this Diriyah Season 2025/26 experience transforms the past into something you not only learn about but also genuinely feel.
Not your typical heritage visit, it offers a fully immersive journey into the life of a man whose legacy was built on knowledge, wisdom, and resilience. Prince Thunayyan bin Saud, a prominent figure of the First Saudi State, was renowned for his sharp judgment and love of learning – even after losing his eyesight.
Inside his former residence, that story is brought to life through dramatic projection mapping, atmospheric soundscapes, and beautifully designed installations that transport visitors to another era.

As you pass through the first three rooms of the palace, shadowy-style still images portray the prince’s upbringing, rooted in knowledge, wisdom, and counsel.
The fourth room features a striking installation artwork dedicated to the loss of his sight.
The journey ends in the fifth room with a majestic homage to the palace itself, remaining steadfast long after its owner’s passing.
The experience is enhanced by an immersive soundscape. You will hear recitations of Quranic verses, the gentle rustling of turning book pages, and echoes of scholarly gatherings, slowly giving way to the sounds of cannons and the enduring spirit of the palace.
And while you’re there, take time to admire the palace itself. Built in the mid-18th century AD, it is one of the largest and most significant palaces in the At-Turaif District, showcasing traditional Najdi architecture with mudbrick walls, stone foundations, and Tamarisk wood details.
The palace has two floors and a spacious central courtyard that functions as an open living area. It has two main entrances and a secondary entrance overlooking the valley, allowing access from various directions.
Overlooking Shuaib Hubaiker, its strategic location once balanced comfort and defence. Today, it offers breathtaking views and serious heritage charm.
So, who is Prince Thunayyan bin Saud?
Born in Diriyah at the end of the 17th century AD, he witnessed the founding of the Saudi State by his brother, Imam Mohammad bin Saud, in 1727, and supported him with advice and counsel during that pivotal period.
Prince Thunayyan bin Saud was renowned for his sound judgment and profound wisdom.
Despite losing his eyesight, he continued his pursuit of knowledge. He possessed a vast library, supported scholars and students, and was deeply involved in various fields of learning.
