Have fun creating your own sushi platter at ROKA

Sushi platters are our love language…

Japanese food is a favourite of ours, fluctuating between first and second place in our books. There doesn’t go a week where we don’t crave its refined, bold, yet subtle flavours. And, let’s be honest, the quality level of your sushi can really make or break the dining experience.

When it comes to fresh, high-quality, and exceptionally delicious sushi, ROKA remains one of the best in the business. This elegant restaurant is known for its contemporary Japanese robatayaki cuisine, but staples such as a rainbow mix of various sashimi and a variety of maki make it an excellent sushi stop in its own right.

Plus, you can now level up your sushi game with ROKA’s make-your-own sushi platter, which takes place every Sunday and Monday. Sliced and plated so delicately and creatively, you almost don’t want to eat it. But, trust us, you should…

Start off by choosing two from the nigiri (options include tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and shrimp) and tartare sections. The buttery yellowtail nigiri has such a light flavour and just melts between your teeth, while the mixed sashimi tartare with chilli sesame dressing packs a much-needed flavour punch. Be sure to spoon the tartare on top of the rice-seaweed crackers – the combo is heavenly.

Next up is the maki rolls. You get to choose two from their selection of nine unique rolls, which range from raw salmon, soft shell crab, crispy prawn and spicy tuna to king crab, dynamite spicy shrimp tempura roll, yellowtail, black cod, and avocado with asparagus, cucumber and wasabi peas.

What you should try is their crunchy soft shell crab with cucumber, kimchi, and chilli mayonnaise or their black cod maki with yuzu miso. The yellowtail maki with chives and miso aioli is soft and creamy, another obvious highlight of the sushi selection.

At SAR210 per head, it’s worth it; the sushi platter is extremely presentable and makes for a wonderful treat. We are left full and very much soaked in the feeling of having been the recipients of ROKA’s philosophy of “wholeheartedly looking after your guests”.
