There will be no in-person university and school classes in Riyadh on Thursday

The news was just revealed

We’re just as surprised as you are, but it’s just been revealed that there will be no in-person university and school classes in Riyadh on Thursday December 17.

As adverse weather conditions are expected to continue in the capital based on reports from the National Centre for Meteorology, educational authorities have announced that schools will transition to remote classes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The move comes after it was announced that Riyadh and the Eastern Province are still on a red weather alert on account of heavy rain, along with accompanying conditions like strong winds, zero horizontal visibility, hail, flash floods, and thunderstorms. The warning is expected to end by Thursday.

Riyadh, including the capital and Diriyah, plus its governorates, including Al Majma’ah, Thadiq, Al-Ghat, Al-Zulfi, Al-Dawadmi, Al-Quwayiyah, Afif, Shaqra, Hawtat Bani Tamim, Al-Kharj, AL Dilam, Al-Hariq, Marat, Dhurma, Harimla, and Rumah, are all included in the warning.

Since there will be in-person university and school classes in Riyadh on Thursday, several schools will conduct classes remotely through the Madrasati platform and other approved educational systems. The decision applies to all students as well as teaching and administrative staff. The move aims to ensure student safety while maintaining continuity of the educational process under current weather conditions.

Classes will be suspended tomorrow in all schools in Al-Qassim and several universities, including Majmaah and Shaqra University.

Authorities have now urged students, parents, and school staff to follow official weather updates and adhere to safety guidelines.

More about this week

Weather conditions in Riyadh and the Eastern Province during this week (on Monday and Tuesday) were actually so unstable that the two cities had to turn to remote learning for university and school classes. In fact, students just went back to school on Wednesday.
