Bring on the burgers…

Riyadh’s burger scene has some fierce competition. Here are our six of the best new burger joints that you need to try right now.

Dough Shack Burger

Not your typical burger, but the bun at Dough Shack Burger is brave and brilliant. Forget the artisanal brioche or sourdough. Here, the patty is wrapped in a sort of like a slightly upgraded sesame seed dough pastry, and it’s baked in the oven. It holds up to the meaty patty a little better, and the bun’s texture is flakier than any of the other buns. This makes for plenty of space for the juices to get soaked up. The Swiss mushroom burger comes highly recommended.

Dough Shack Burger, As Sahafah, Riyadh 13315, daily noon to 3am. Tel: 054 713 3321. @dsbksa

Gun Bun

This little burger joint started slinging its perfectly cooked sliders in May 2021. Burgers on burnt dough buns, baked using the Josper charcoal grill oven, are served here, with scrumptious sides like the Wagyu croquette puffs with shitake jam and crispy kale. The cheese melt burger and the roast beef burger are hard to pass up, but there’s plenty on offer if you’re famished. Despite the size, they boast big, bold flavours, thanks to the freshest local produce.

Gun Bun, Pure Centre, 3250 Takhassusi St, Al Mohammadiyyah, Riyadh 12364, daily 7.30pm to midnight. @gunbun.ksa

Kactus

There’s something for everyone at Kactus. Their signature burger on their menu, the Korean fried chicken, consists of a crispy patty, Gochujang sauce, kimchi slaw, sweet pickles and dills, and lettuce on a freshly baked bun. That’s one burger we can’t wait to try.

Kactus, 3227 Northern Ring Rd, Al Masiaf, Riyadh 12468, daily 5pm to 2am. @kactus.sa

Kush by Lokal

Get the smoked bbq burger and marvel at the cascading layer of melted cheese masking the ground black Angus beef patty, crispy bacon and fried onions topping a burger that refuses to be contained by its charcoal bun. Top it with some of their Kush sauce. Take a bite. Repeat. Nap.

Kush by Lokal, Abi Bakr As Siddiq Branch Rd, Al Yasmin, Riyadh 11564, Sat, Mon to Wed 7.30pm to midnight, Thurs & Fri 7.30pm to 2am. Tel: 050 514 5504. @kushbylokalsa

Oh sweet beefy goodness me, the buns are soft, and the beef patties are spiced and cooked to perfection at Nopa. Run to your car now to sink your desperate burger-loving face into the truffle beef burger – beef patty, mushroom, lettuce, arugula, Jack cheese, cheddar, and truffle sauce. You’ll also want to get some butterfly shrimps with Sriracha sauce on the side.

A collective cheer went up from burger lovers when the sensational She Burger from Dubai finally opened in Riyadh. The namesake ‘The She Burger’ is a solid choice. Seared double patty, piled with fresh lettuce, onion slices, pickles, a special sauce, and gooey melted cheese, all tucked into a freshly baked bun that’s robust enough to capture all the succulent juices. Top it off with Her Messy Fries (a mountain of crispy fries topped with jalapenos, cheddar cheese, and crushed Cheetos), sit back, and enjoy one of life’s perfect moments.
