The Hewar Art Gallery, located at the poshest address in the city, is dedicated to showcasing work by local and regional artists. To visit, be sure to call the gallery before arrival. The gallery representative will meet you in the lobby of the Kingdom Tower and then usher you up to the 52nd floor. Aside from the beautiful artworks, you’ll be impressed by the expansive city views via a wall of windows that drench the gallery’s two rooms in a soft glow. There’s staff on hand to provide you with refreshments and offer tours of the gallery’s exhibits, too.

Hewar Art Gallery, Kingdom Tower, Offices Gate, Al Urubah Road, Al Olaya, Sat to Thurs 1pm to 10pm. Tel: 011 211 1300 / 055 800 0077. @hewarartgallery

Odds and ends are what people come looking for at the Haraj Market, and that is what makes it such an appealing place. While you can find just about anything here, the market is known to be a magnet for thrifty shoppers in search of second-hand clothes, electrical appliances, and furniture. So, take your time, have a good rummage, and do not be shy to haggle. Once you’ve loaded up with treasures, re-energise with a cold sugar cane juice or buttered sweet corn in a cup. Overall, it makes for a pretty wholesome weekend, even if you don’t have something specific in mind to buy.

New Haraj Market, 6829 Al Masani, Riyadh 14714, Sat to Thurs 9am to 11pm & Fri 9am to noon, 1 to 11pm. Tel: 050 431 3429.
