Jeddah is known as the Bride of the Red Sea amongst locals, and for a good reason. The sea is a crucial aspect of life, culture, dining, and sport for people living in the coastal city.

It’s hardly surprising that scuba diving is a popular hobby for so many adventure-seekers in Jeddah.

The sport is relatively accessible (unlike other expensive adventurous hobbies) and something that everyone in Jeddah – residents and visitors alike – must try at least once.

Plus, the Red Sea is one of the most beautiful seas in the world to explore; there are more than 1,200 species of fish, pleasant water temperatures, and whimsical shipwrecks just waiting to be explored.

Although it’s often regarded as a ‘male sport’, recently, Jeddah has seen a sharp increase in the number of women now embracing scuba diving.

Diving has become more accessible for all so that those who have never dived before can now get training to do so.

Pink Bubbles Divers, a group started by Jeddah’s women scuba-divers, are keen to make the Red Sea a place that women can enjoy just as much as men always have.

So, whether you are a Jeddah resident or visitor, scuba diving should be at the top of your list if you are interested in trying something new. Jeddah and the Red Sea go hand-in-hand, and no city experience is complete without immersing yourself (literally) in its sea life.
