Could a new Cirque du Soleil show be coming to Saudi Arabia?

A new partnership between the Ministry of Culture and Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group could see the creation of a new show unique to the Kingdom…

Saudi Arabia has already welcomed six Cirque du Soleil shows since 2018, but a new partnership between the parent entertainment group and Saudi’s Ministry of Culture will see the arrival of many more.

As part of the agreement, the renowned Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group will bring some of its top shows and award-winning performances to Saudi Arabia. At present, there’s no confirmation of exactly which shows are set to wow Saudi Arabia – or where we might be able to catch them. However here’s what we do know: according to a statement from the Ministry of Culture these could include The Illusionist, Now You See Me, Paw Patrol Live – Race to Rescue, Trolls Live, and Blue Man Group World Tour. The statement also suggests a new show, unique to the Kingdom, could take up residency in Saudi Arabia.

The last time Cirque du Soleil brought a show to Saudi Arabia was in November last year, when the group brought Messi10 to Riyadh Season 2021. The performance, which pays tribute to the famous Argentinian football player Lionel Messi, began in Barcelona before travelling to Doha and then Riyadh. It’s set to make its way to Barcelona in 2023, although its Middle Eastern return is expected some time before that in 2022.

There are also plans to extend the partnership between the two to create a Cirque du Soleil training academy, the first of its kind for the region. Here, budding performers will have the opportunity to hone their skills through with a curriculum led by some of the world’s finest performers. International circus school exchanges and artist-in-residency programs will also form part of the educational process at the training academy, with those who successfully complete courses receiving internationally recognized certifications.
