Watch: Heavy snowfall in Tabuk on New Year’s Day

Every year, snowfall brings tourists from across the Kingdom to Tabuk…

Saudi Arabia’s north-western city of Tabuk rings in the New Year with a pile of snow. Although it is not unusual for snowfall to occur in the region, the wintery weather continues to delight residents and visitors.

Videos of the storm and people celebrating the snowfall circulated widely on social media, with impressive scenes of Jabal Al-Lawz mountains covered with snow.

People have been flocking to the mountains since yesterday (January 1), when snow began to fall in most areas.

However, it was reported that the extreme weather led security forces to close the road leading to the area after thousands of people arrived to enjoy the sight.

Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence called on everyone to be vigilant amid low visibility and the possibility of heavy rainfall and thunder expected to last until Monday.

In addition, the National Centre of Meteorology had forecast, in its weather report, that thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are expected in Asir, Jazan, Madinah, Ha’il, the northern borders and Al-Jawf, as well as the Tabuk region, where more snow was not ruled out on higher grounds.

Saudi Arabia’s weather shifts between two extremes – scorching summer heat and sub-zero winter temperatures.

Here are some videos and images of the heavy snowfall in Tabuk.
