8 wonderful things to do in Riyadh this weekend: June 9 to 11

Bring on the weekend…

The weekend’s almost here, and if you’re looking for things to do in Riyadh, we’ve got you covered. There is a new trend to try – horseback yoga (yes, it’s a thing), art and dance classes to sign up for, and a dining spot where you can enjoy jazz night. They’re all worth planning the weekend around.

Check out these eight wonderful things to do in Riyadh this weekend.

Macrame is a great craft to learn if you want to get creative but don’t have a lot of space or time to work. In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of macrame art and how to construct a beautiful and simple decorative tapestry from start to finish. Your instructor will cover all the different styles, materials, textures, and types of ropes. And, of course, there will be lots to learn about the world of macrame knots.

Macrame Art Workshop, June 9, 6pm to 9pm, INTO, 4395 Prince Muhammad Ibn Saad Ibn Abdulaziz Rd, 7080, Riyadh 13516. Fee: SAR540. Only for ladies above 16 years old. Register here. Tel: 053 206 0303. @into_ksa

Head over to Italian restaurant Bal’Harm every Thursday evening, where their jazz nights bring you a stunning start to the weekend. Tuck into some delicious homemade pasta, and wash it down with mocktails and sublime live jazz tunes.

Bal’Harm Jazz Night, every Thurs 9pm to midnight, King Mohammed V Street, As Sulimaniyah, Riyadh 12223, Sat to Wed 1pm to 1am, Thurs & Fri 1pm to 2am. @balharm.sa

Friday June 10

3. Get your tickets to Jurassic World Dominion

Experience the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era as two generations unite for the first time. “Jurassic World Dominion” is set four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, with dinosaurs living – and hunting – alongside humans all around the world. Leaning into nostalgia, Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) team up with Dr. Ellie Sattler (Oscar-winner Laura Dern), Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) as the fragile balance between humans and dinosaurs comes into question.

Book your tickets here.

4. Combine yoga with horseback riding for a true Zen experience

horseback yoga

Move over, yoga mats. Let’s practise on horseback instead. This new trend of horseback yoga takes vinyasa with animals to a whole other level. Offered at AlAreen Equestrian Club by yoga and pilates instructor Ghalia Khaldi, this yoga and horsemanship experience is about cultivating an intimate connection with a four-legged friend, nature, and yourself. And, unlike other methods of yoga with animals, horseback yoga actually involves balancing poses on a horse’s back – a pretty impressive feat considering how hard it can be simply getting into the saddle.

Yoga & Horseback Riding, June 10, 5pm to 8pm, AlAreen Equestrian Club, Al Janadriyah Rd, Riyadh 13635. Price: SAR420 per person. Book your spot here. @al_areen_equestrian_club
