Delicate. Flaky. Buttery. Is there a better breakfast than a croissant? That’s why Croi Bakehouse is a bakery worth knowing. It offers a selection of beautifully presented and freshly baked patisserie treats for you to work your way through. Picture a dreamy, messy, buttery affair with an outer shell that breaks away in a shower of golden crumbs. Inside is layer after layer of silken dough, dense but not weighty, and soft but not undercooked. Our favourite is the almond croissant – and yes, it really is that good.

Croi Bakehouse, Prince Mohammed Ibn Salman Ibn Abdulaziz Rd, Ar Rabi, Riyadh 13315, Sat to Thurs 7am to 3pm &Fri 1pm to 6pm. @croi.bakehouse

2. Don’t Worry Darling, the wait is over…

Are you ready to live the life you deserve? Alice (Florence Pugh) and Jack (Harry Styles) are lucky to be living in the idealised community of Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. The 1950s societal optimism espoused by their CEO, Frank (Chris Pine) – equal parts corporate visionary and motivational life coach – anchors every aspect of daily life in the tight-knit desert utopia. While the husbands spend every day inside the Victory Project Headquarters, working on the “development of progressive materials”, their wives –  including Frank’s elegant partner, Shelley (Gemma Chan) –  get to enjoy the beauty, luxury and debauchery of their community. Life is perfect, with every resident’s needs met by the company. All they ask in return is discretion and unquestioning commitment to the Victory cause. But when cracks in her idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can’t help questioning exactly what they’re doing in Victory and why. Just how much is Alice willing to lose to expose what’s going on in this paradise?

Don’t Worry Darling, Thriller, Rating R18, 2h 30min. Book your tickets here.

5. Visit the iconic King Fahad National Library

The King Fahd National Library is, to put it mildly, eye-catching. Designed by German architect Professor Eckhard Gerber and his Gerber Architekten team, this futuristic steel and glass structure features lozenge-shaped textile awnings, which playfully combine revelation and concealment. The library houses 6,000 original manuscripts and nearly 73,000 photocopied transcripts, with 7,000 digitised for online readers. We love how the well-stocked rows of books bring a splash of colour and life to this modernist book emporium.

King Fahad National Library, 6757 King Fahd Rd, Al Olaya, Riyadh 12211, Sun to Thurs 8am to 8pm & Fri 1pm to 8pm. Tel: 011 418 6111. @kfnlgov
