New Murabba: Riyadh's dazzling new mega project

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the new lifestyle project for the capital…

Riyadh’s been quite the magnet for a lot of developments, and a brand-new one has just been added to the list. The New Murabba Development Company (NMDC) was launched today, February 16, by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and will be behind the new development.

Situated north west of Riyadh, the new project can be found at the intersection of King Salman and King Khalid roads according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The New Murabba project has plans to feature green areas and walking and cycling paths to promote sustainability. Sounds blissful.

Within the development, there will also be an iconic museum, a technology and design university and a multipurpose immersive theater. More than 80 entertainment and culture venues will await residents and visitors, too.

The venue will have 104,000 residential units, 9,000 hotel rooms, and more than 980,000 square metres of retail space. The area will have its own internal transport system. It will also be conveniently located a 20-minute drive away from King Khalid International Airport.

More things coming

Additionally, the New Murabba Development Company will also develop Mukaab, which is set to be an iconic landmark in the capital. Mukaab will be one of the largest built structures in the world at 400 metres high, 400 metres wide, and 400 metres long. The building will be inspired by Najdi-style architecture.

It’s set to be the world’s first immersive destination where visitors will be able to experience digital and virtual technology with the latest holographs. The landmark will have a tower perched on top of a spiral base and a premium hospitality destination.

There will also be residential and hotel units, commercial spaces, and recreational facilities. It will also be home to a bunch of shops and additional cultural and tourist attractions too.

The new company will be operating under PIF and is set to be completed by 2030 in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.
