Get ready to light the fires for an authentic Korean BBQ in Riyadh

This new restaurant promises to be a big, smoky sensation…

If you’re in the mood for a different type of Asian cuisine, you can look forward to a unique dining experience that is authentic Korean barbeque in Riyadh.

Namu

The Esplanade will soon welcome Namu, a swish new joint serving up the finest cuts of meat alongside traditional Korean barbeque. Expect high-quality wagyu beef, marinated meats including the famous bulgogi and galbi dishes, and sumptuous seafood, complemented with Korean banchan (side dishes) like bap (cooked rice), fresh veggies, kimchi, pickled cucumber, and sauces like ssamjang.

Beyond great Korean barbeque, we also hope the new restaurant will offer heartier Korean staples.

Namu is the brainchild of Las Vegas-based chef Akira Back. Though the details are still unfolding about the celebrity chef’s new concept, and no definite date has been given for its opening, it looks like it won’t be long before we get our fill of Korean barbeque goodness.

Namu means “wood” in Korean, and a little peek through the floor-to-ceiling windows shows that Unified Hospitality seems to have brought plenty inside. Expect plenty of interactive dining experiences in a sleek space, with contemporary interiors furnished with wood panelling and the occasional pops of colour for a sophisticated and urban vibe.

Couple that with tables with inbuilt barbecue grills for diners to DIY their own dinner, and you know you’re in for a sizzling experience.

Never had Korean BBQ before? We’re pretty sure the staff will kind of guide you through the process of it.

Namu is part of Chef Back’s international expansion. The former professional snowboarder turned chef is also behind the modern Chinese restaurant Dasha, which is also located at The Esplanade. And he’s only just getting started in the Kingdom. Foodies can also expect his namesake restaurant to open in Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter.

We’ll be sure to keep you posted as we find out more details.
