The Last Dance: Messi and Ronaldo will collide at the Riyadh Season Cup in February

It’s the last dance of football greatness…

Football fans, get excited. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are set to face off one last time in February 2024, potentially marking their final encounter, as announced by Turki Al-Sheikh, chairman of the Kingdom’s General Entertainment Authority.

Dubbed ‘The Last Dance’, the epic showdown between Messi and Ronaldo symbolises the conclusion of a rivalry that defined an era. The two football icons have been neck-and-neck for numerous records and awards, clashing a total of 36 times over their storied careers, with their first meeting in 2008. The Argentine leads the way between the two with 16 wins to Ronaldo’s 11. And soon, two of the greatest footballers to ever grace the pitch will be lining up against each other one last time.

Riyadh Season, in collaboration with Messi’s current club, Inter Miami CF, has agreed to host the Riyadh Season Cup matches as a highlight of Riyadh Season activities. Scheduled for the first week of February 2024, the matches are slated to take place at the newly inaugurated Kingdom Arena – just before Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s boxing world heavyweight unification bout.

The upcoming Riyadh Season Cup tournament, structured in a league format, will feature three teams: Al Hilal, Ronaldo’s Al Nassr, and Messi’s Inter Miami CF. Al Hilal and Al Nassr are Riyadh’s two biggest clubs.

The Riyadh Season Cup promises to attract global attention, providing fans with an exclusive view of some of the world’s best players in action. As part of the participating clubs, the tournament will also showcase the stars of Al-Hilal Saudi Club, the Club World Cup runner-up, including Serbian sensation Aleksandar Mitrovic and Asia’s Best Player, Captain Salem AI-Dawsari.

The league schedule and tickets for the Riyadh Season Cup will be announced at a later date. So, watch this space.
