World-class jazz and soul diva China Moses comes to Riyadh

The one-night-only concert is part of the ‘Safar Nights’ music series at the Fenaa Alawwal Centre…

There is no doubt that jazz is making waves in the Saudi music scene, especially with the first Riyadh International Jazz Festival that took place early this month.

For fans who want to catch more amazing jazz, the Fenaa Alawwal Centre in Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter (DQ) presents its third ‘Safar Nights’ music series with a one-night-only concert featuring jazz and soul diva China Moses.

Taking place on Tuesday February 27, China will fire up DQ with a night of soulful jazz, and fans will be able to enjoy her deep, raspy and warm voice. The singer-songwriter seamlessly fuses her music between jazz, R’n’B, rock and metal, wittingly blurring the lines between labels and genres.

Art is in her DNA, and China is masterful at embodying a myriad of styles. She gets her stage presence and voice from her mother, jazz icon Dee Dee Bridgewater, and her ability to craft a short movie in every song from her father, theatre and film director Gilbert Moses. She has set her own path, fine-tuning a sound uniquely her own.

China will be a fabulous act to see live, and her smouldering energy is something you would not want to miss.

Through the ‘Safar Nights’ series, the Fenaa Alawwal Centre seeks to provide artistic experiences that reflect cultural diversity and promote dialogue and human exchange through music. It has since hosted internationally acclaimed artist Souad Massi in November 2023 and jazz musician Erik Truffaz last month.

The centre, affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, was established in 2022 at the former headquarters of Alawwal Bank. It also offers art exhibitions, creative and educational workshops, seminars, and other cultural activities.
