Big-name celebrities in the sporting world are not uncommon in Saudi Arabia. The latest to be spotted in the Kingdom is legendary LALIGA and Spanish footballer David Villa – after videos circulating online by a local football influencer showed the LALIGA legend in town.

David Villa

Villa is no stranger to Saudi Arabia, though. The world champion and winner of the FIFA Club World Cup with Barcelona was seen in Jeddah last December for the pre-tour of the FIFA Club World Cup Saudi Arabia 2023.

Early this year, as part of his visit to the Kingdom, Villa led a special clinic at the MAHD Sports Academy in Riyadh.

Villa’s visits have raised questions about his own potential Saudi adventures.

Moreover, with Saudi Arabia making headlines in sports and rapidly increasing its sporting portfolio, it seems they now appear to be targeting Spain’s top goalscorer.

Here’s all you need to know about the LALIGA legend

Villa’s career spanned 19 years and began in Spain with Sporting Gijon before subsequent moves to Zaragoza, Valencia, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Famed for being a LALIGA legend and the Spanish national team’s top goalscorer of all time, David “The Kid” Villa has collected over three LALIGA titles: two while playing for Barcelona in 2011 and 2013, and another in 2014 while playing for Atletico Madrid.

Throughout his club career, he has also claimed the Copa del Rey thrice and won the Champions League in 2011 with Barcelona.

The Spaniard has represented his country 98 times internationally, scoring four goals at Euro 2008 and five times at the 2010 World Cup, totalling 59 goals in his international career. One of the greatest strikers Spain has produced, Villa is their highest-ever goalscorer on the global stage.

Despite his superstardom, the LALIGA football legend is no stranger to a challenge. Born to the son of a miner, David started playing with a broken femur as a child before being celebrated in LALIGA for his well-rounded skill set and dead-ball specialism.

So, what’s in store for David Villa?  Will the LALIGA legend take his talent to the Middle East in the future?

Stay tuned for updates.
