teamLab Borderless to open its first Middle East location in Saudi Arabia

Construction of teamLab Borderless Jeddah is underway for completion…

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. After years of speculation and waiting, the Saudi Ministry of Culture and the art collective teamLab are finally moving forward with the construction of teamLab Borderless Jeddah.

Exhibiting over 50 experiential artworks created by teamLab using digital technology, teamLab Borderless Jeddah will be the first-ever permanent teamLab Borderless museum to launch in the Middle East. The immense museum is making steady progress towards completion.

teamLab Borderless Jeddah is being built on the shores of Alarbaeen Lagoon, overlooking the panoramic views of Jeddah Historic District, a Unesco World Heritage Site.

The museum is part of the Saudi Ministry of Culture mandate in the Jeddah Historic District’s revitalisation programme. It seeks to preserve the historical and cultural urban centre as a vibrant cultural hub, reflecting the Kingdom’s diverse history and innovative spirit.

What’s this place about

teamLab Borderless is a world of artworks without boundaries, a museum without a map created by the art collective teamLab.

teamLab Borderless

Imagine an endlessly Instagrammable and surreal museum dedicated to multi-sensory digital art. A mapless, unguided exploration of interactive digital art installations that feature constantly morphing patterns and designs.

The artworks seamlessly merge, influence and interact with each other across the rooms, as well as with the people who wander through these spaces.

You can wander, return, and delve into immersive pieces that change over time, revealing new views with each visit. Hence, the ‘borderless’ moniker in the museum’s name.

teamLab Borderless

When teamLab Borderless first opened its doors in Tokyo in June 2018, the museum welcomed over 2.3 million annual visitors and set the world record for the most visited museum by a single art group.

As a collaborative initiative between the Saudi Ministry of Culture and teamLab, the all-new teamLab Borderless Jeddah will become a part of further developing a thriving cultural ecosystem in the Kingdom.

The teamLab Borderless Jeddah opening date has not yet been revealed, but watch this space for more updates.
