Neymar to depart Al-Hilal after injury leaves him with low appearance record

The contract was mutually terminated…

Mega club Al-Hilal first announced that they’d be bringing Neymar over to the Saudi Pro League from Paris Saint-Germain F.C. back in August 2023 as the team’s superstar forward. In Riyadh, the footballer joined the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. This is everything we know about Neymar leaving Al-Hilal.

Just months after joining the Blues, the footballer was struck down by an injury to his leg (a ruptured cruciate ligament in his left knee) while playing for Brazil against Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier in October 2023 and was benched for nearly a year after undergoing a surgery.

Neymar also suffered a hamstring injury late last year and missed another five weeks. During his 18-month stint, the footballer played for Al-Hilal just seven times due to his injuries.

The 32-year-old footballer joined the club for a reported USD98 million(EUR90 million) fee that went to PSG, and a contract that saw him earn USD104 million per year (EUR99 million per year). During his time at the club, he earned USD156 million (EUR149.50 million). Neymar ended up becoming the most expensive player in the world when PSG signed him from Barcelona for EUR200m in 2017, and still retains his title as of now.

Active since 1957, Riyadh-based Al-Hilal, who play in blue, white and red, have won a record 19 league titles, a record 13 Crown Prince Cup titles, a record seven Saudi Federation Cup titles, eleven King Cup titles, a record five Super Cup titles, as well as the Saudi Founder’s Cup.
