Weather alert: Fall has officially begun in Saudi Arabia
Though it may not feel like it
This has maybe been the worst summer (but then, I say that every summer). However, the end is now finally (finally) in sight. It’s been reported that fall in Saudi Arabia is officially in session.
According to Saudi Gazette, the transition is marked by a prominent astronomical event. Known locally as qiran (conjunction) 19, this is when the moon aligns with the Pleiades star cluster.

This event has long been a traditional time marker for generations of Bedouin Saudis. To them, the phenomenon marks the start of the rainy season and the growth of plants vital for pastures.
When spoken to about the astronomical event, Adnan Khalifa, a member of the local space and astronomy club in Arar, said this season is a “rest period” for nature, allowing the land to rejuvenate and improving pasture quality for livestock. Beyond its environmental importance, fall also impacts daily life.
With the much-awaited return of cooler weather, we can finally look forward to outdoor activities, alfresco season, and Riyadh Season (but did it ever really leave us?).
Recently, Saudi Arabia has been experiencing a bit of rainfall in areas like Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah, Tabuk, and Madinah, with a chance for light to moderate rainfall in parts of the Riyadh region, while heavy rainfall was seen in the highlands of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah.
