Ramadan Nights: Hakawati Hayy

Explore the magic of puppets, shared traditions and storytelling with Ramadan Nights: Hakawati Hayy. The programme unfolds over three weeks and will draw on, explore, and take inspiration from hakawati (the traditional storyteller), folktales from the Hejaz, and togetherness across generations, culture, space, and time.
In collaboration with the Arab Puppet Theatre Foundation alongside a vibrant mix of local creatives, makers and community clubs, Ramadan Nights offers a diverse programme celebrating the history of Arab puppetry, rituals and shadow play through collective imagination, play and community.
Week 1 (Wednesday February 25 to Sunday March 1) sets the tone with puppet displays and performances, hands-on workshops, masterclasses, engaging talks, children’s activities, board games, and late-night dining. Week 2 (Thursday March 5 to Saturday March 7) keeps the momentum going with a continuation of storytelling workshops, discussions, games and F&B experiences featuring some of Jeddah’s finest bakeries. The final week shifts into a social rhythm, bringing back crowd-favourite games nights with JED Board Games, complemented by local and fusion eateries and a variety of activations across Hayy Jameel, which will all continue until Sunday March 15.
Timings: Feb 25 to Mar 1, Mar 5 to 7, 9.30pm to 2am
