Saudi Arabia will sight the Eid Al-Fitr 2026 crescent on this date

Eid Al-Fitr 2026 is just (and we mean just) around the corner, and by now, you know the drill. The Kingdom’s Supreme Court is calling on Muslims throughout the country to sight the Eid Al-Fitr 2026 crescent.
The Supreme Court will be looking for the crescent moon of Shawwal on the evening of Wednesday, the 29th of Ramadan 1447 AH – according to the Umm al-Qura calendar—corresponding to Wednesday March 18.

The statement was issued by the Court, the text of which is as follows: “Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and companions.
In view of what was included in the Supreme Court Decision No. (204/H) dated Sha’ban 29 1447 AH, that Wednesday, Ramadan 1 1447 AH – according to the Umm al-Qura calendar—corresponding to February 18, was the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH; The Supreme Court calls upon all Muslims throughout the Kingdom to look for the crescent moon of Shawwal on the evening of Wednesday, Ramadan 29 1447 AH (according to to the Umm al-Qura calendar), corresponding to Marcn 18.”
The Supreme Court requests that anyone who sights the crescent moon, whether with the naked eye or using binoculars, report it to the nearest court and register their testimony or contact the nearest centre for assistance in reaching the nearest court.
The Supreme Court hopes that those capable of sighting the crescent will pay attention to this matter and join the committees formed in their regions for this purpose, seeking reward and recompense for their participation, as it constitutes cooperation in righteousness and piety and benefits all Muslims, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Eid al Fitr is also known as the ‘Festival of Breaking of the Fast’ and is one of two official holidays celebrated in Islam. It is celebrated by Muslims worldwide and marks the end of Ramadan.
