Well, GymNation is taking that post-gym ritual in a completely new direction.
The GCC’s homegrown fitness brand has just unveiled what it calls the world’s first protein shisha bar – and before you ask, yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like.
A tobacco-free, nicotine-free shisha experience inspired by popular sports supplements like whey protein, creatine and BCAAs.
And the first place it’s landing? Riyadh.
Your post-workout routine is about to change
Set to launch across selected GymNation clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, the innovative concept will debut as part of a new series of café-style recovery and social spaces within gym environments.
The protein shisha bar will sit alongside GymNation’s existing wellness offerings, creating a relaxed post-workout space where members can socialise, recover, and recharge – all without leaving the gym.
What exactly is protein shisha?
Unlike traditional shisha, GymNation’s protein shisha uses a herbal, molasses-based vapour system that contains no tobacco or nicotine.
Instead, flavours adopt gym culture themes, with names like The Whey Cloud, Macro Mist, and BCAA Breeze making the menu resemble a supplement shelf more than a lounge.
It’s all been developed in collaboration with an aerosolised nutrition specialist, with claims that inhaling the vapour could enable nutrients to be absorbed more rapidly than the usual shake method.
According to GymNation, each 45-minute protein shisha session could deliver:
- Up to 25g of “aroma-activated protein”;
- Supports fast post-workout muscle recovery;
- Helps stimulate muscle protein synthesis for growth;
- A 43 per cent boost in post-training social engagement.
Fitness meets social culture
Science aside, the bigger picture is how gyms are evolving. They’re no longer just places you show up to sweat and then leave. Instead, they’re becoming social spaces… think of them as somewhere between a workout, a café, and a hangout spot.
And in a region where shisha culture is such a big part of social life, this feels like a very GymNation way of bringing two worlds together.
The Riyadh launch will act as a pilot before expanding across the GCC, with plans for Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and Bahrain.
