This new theatre play in Riyadh comes with live music and plenty of drama

If your inner thoughts had a stage, this would probably be the show

Curtains up, Riyadh. The city’s theatre scene may still be finding its feet, but theatre enthusiasts are finally getting more than the occasional performance to look forward to.

Taking over The Warehouse in JAX District on Monday May 18 and Tuesday May 19, Unspoken: Episode 1 – Permission Not Granted brings together live music, original monologues and seriously relatable storytelling into one emotional, slightly chaotic and very intriguing evening.

And before you picture old-school theatre with long silences and confusing plots, this is not that.

The show dives straight into the awkward bits of modern life – work burnout, dating disasters, identity struggles, people-pleasing, overthinking, and the tiny emotional meltdowns most of us pretend we’re handling with ease.

Basically, don’t be surprised if you find yourself laughing one minute and sitting quietly, reflecting on your own life the next.

Created alongside Writers in Riyadh, Aurora Theatre and The Warehouse, Unspoken: Episode 1 is all about stories people usually keep in the drafts, the Notes app or the group chat. The performances are raw, honest and close enough to real life that at least one line is likely to stick in your head.

What makes Unspoken: Episode 1 especially interesting is how personal it feels. There’s no over-the-top production or dramatic stage tricks to steal attention.

It’s just people telling stories that feel familiar in the best – and occasionally the most uncomfortable – way possible.

Expect an interesting crowd, live music woven through the performances and plenty to talk about once the show ends.

Tickets are now available via the WeBook platform. So, grab your seat before the curtains rise and enjoy the show.
