Saudi Arabia's hottest race returns to AlUla this August
AlUla Desert Blaze is back this August with distances ranging from 5km to a full marathon
If you’ve ever wanted to know what it feels like to run through the desert in the height of summer, the AlUla Desert Blaze may be what you need.
Returning on Sunday August 16, AlUla Desert Blaze is back for its fourth edition, challenging runners to take on Saudi Arabia’s fiercest test of physical endurance under the scorching summer sun.
Set against AlUla’s spectacular landscapes, the race invites participants to push their limits while experiencing some of Saudi Arabia’s most breathtaking scenery.

Whether you’re a seasoned marathon runner, chasing a personal best, or simply looking for a new challenge, there is a distance to suit every fitness level.
The challenges
5km: Perfect for beginners and casual runners, this dash is the gentlest introduction to AlUla Desert Blaze. Don’t be fooled by the shorter distance, though. Running through the AlUla desert in August is hardly a stroll in the park.
10km: A solid challenge for regular runners. Long enough to test your stamina, but still manageable for those who’d like to enjoy the breathtaking landscapes without immediately questioning their life choices.
21km: The half-marathon is where things start to get serious. Expect soaring temperatures, spectacular views and a genuine sense of achievement once you’ve crossed the finish line.
42.2km: The full marathon needs little introduction. Covering 42.2 kilometres through the desert in the middle of August is not something most people would volunteer for, which makes crossing the finish line all the more satisfying.
Your race weekend itinerary
It’s not just about race day. The AlUla Desert Blaze is a two-day experience, beginning with a mandatory pre-race briefing before the starting gun sounds the following morning.

Saturday August 15
The weekend begins with the official race briefing and welcome session, which includes a vital deep dive into the routes, rules, and safety measures. Attendance is mandatory for all participants, with complimentary bites, refreshments, and race kits fuelling the anticipation.
Sunday August 16
Race Day arrives. From first-time participants tackling the 5km route to seasoned runners taking on the full 42.2km marathon, competitors head out across AlUla’s dramatic desert landscape for a challenge that is as rewarding as it is demanding. The desert heat may be relentless, but so is the sense of achievement waiting at the finish line.
