You won't believe what people are leaving behind in Ubers across Saudi Arabia

Uber’s latest Lost & Found Index reveals the weirdest items left behind in rides across Saudi Arabia (…some of which are seriously baffling)

We’ve all been there. You step out of an Uber, walk into your destination, and suddenly realise your phone, wallet, or keys are nowhere to be found.

But according to Uber’s latest Lost & Found Index for Saudi Arabia, some riders have been leaving behind far more unusual items than the everyday essentials.

The annual report, which tracks items left in Uber vehicles across the Kingdom, has revealed a collection of lost possessions ranging from slightly odd to downright bewildering.

Among the strangest items left behind were a fish, an aquarium decoration branch, and a pair of Crocs.

Elsewhere, drivers discovered a tray of eggs, spaghetti sauce, tortilla chips, beef mince, macaroni, a potato, mangoes, boxes of chocolates, a mini spread of pies, and a lone sausage, all left forgotten on the back seat.

Perhaps the most surprising discovery? 20 chickens were reported missing, proving that not every Uber trip involves passengers alone.

The report also suggests that some riders may have had more pressing matters on their minds than their belongings. Legal documents, including court summons and divorce papers, were among the unusual items left behind, while a number of soon-to-be grooms accidentally left their wedding suits behind.

Guitars, drums, violins, and keyboards were also among the items recovered by drivers.

Travellers were not spared either, leaving behind fanny packs, neck pillows, trip keepsakes such as fridge magnets, and even entire toiletry kits.

When it comes to everyday essentials, tech topped the charts. Apple AirTags and laptops were among the most commonly forgotten items, proving that even the gadgets designed to help us keep track of things can sometimes go missing themselves.

Interestingly, red was named the most-forgotten colour, with red water bottles and handbags frequently appearing in lost-item reports.

Uber’s Lost & Found Index aims to remind passengers how to retrieve their lost items using the Uber app. Despite what you may think, forgotten items don’t just disappear into the great Uber abyss.

So, yes, there’s still hope for your 20 chickens…

If you do happen to leave something behind, Uber says that recovering it is usually straightforward. Riders can access their trip history in the app, contact their driver and arrange the return of their belongings.

What to do

Just go into your Uber app, go to “Activity” in the bottom menu, select the trip during which you think you lost an item, scroll down and tap “Find lost item”, and follow the prompts to contact your driver.

If your driver doesn’t answer, leave a detailed voicemail describing your item and the best way to contact you.

And if you lost your phone and are unable to sign in to the app, you can log in at help.uber.com to reconnect.
