Jeddah's getting a shiny new cricket stadium

Cricket is slowly but surely becoming a big thing in Saudi Arabia, with the country investing in its team and its own league and a brand-new cricket stadium in Jeddah.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by the Saudi Cricket Federation and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in Riyadh to develop a cricket stadium in Jeddah. The new stadium is being built to enhance the Kingdom’s readiness to host international cricket tournaments and to support the growth of the sport.

The MoU also aims to strengthen cricket infrastructure in Saudi Arabia by constructing a modern, international-standard stadium while promoting cooperation in technical expertise, facility planning, and the adoption of global operational best practices, per Saudi Gazette.
The agreement was signed in Riyadh in the presence of Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Mohammed, Chairman of the Saudi Cricket Federation, and Pakistan’s Interior Minister and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Prince Saud said the partnership represents a strategic step toward building a sustainable future for cricket in Saudi Arabia by developing infrastructure, strengthening international partnerships, and expanding investment in the sports sector.
The new cricket league
Expected to take place around the second week of October, the six-team Dunes T20 League is set to feature stars of the international game and represents a significant step in the development of cricket in the Kingdom, according to Arab News.
The Dunes T20 League is set to become a historic chapter in Saudi Arabia’s sporting journey, bringing together global cricketing icons, emerging regional talent, and world-class infrastructure to establish the Kingdom as an exciting new destination on the international cricket map.
The tournament aims to accelerate the growth of the sport in the region, provide opportunities for emerging and established local players, and deliver a world-class sporting and entertainment product to global audiences.
