Temperatures to hit 50°C in Saudi Arabia this week

Here’s where

Saudi Arabia’s scorching-hot summer might feel a little hotter this week… And we know that’s saying something. According to the National Centre for Meteorology, temperatures will hit 50°C in Saudi Arabia this week.

Expected to last until Saturday July 18, temperatures will hit 50°C in Saudi Arabia. According to a report published by the National Centre for Meteorology via X (formerly Twitter), maximum temperatures will hit parts of Riyadh and the Eastern Province.

In parts of the Eastern Province, maximum temperatures will range from 47°C  to 50°C. While in Riyadh, Qassim, the Northern Borders, and the Madinah region, maximum temperatures are expected to range from 45°C  to 47°C.

It was previously announced that this year, temperatures will be above normal across all regions of Saudi Arabia, while rainfall opportunities will range from near-normal to below-normal in several regions.

Guidelines

  • Drink water (a bit obvious, we know; however, this is a must)
  • Limit caffeine intake (now you may be thinking we’ve gone mad, but a lot of caffeine may lead to you feeling more dehydrated).
  • Wear appropriate clothing while adhering to modesty guidelines (it’s best to opt for loose-fitting and light-coloured clothes).
  • Limit sun exposure by avoiding going outside during peak hours (so basically until 5pm)
  • Invest in a good sunscreen (take it from us, we have a meltdown every time we forget our three fingerfuls).
  • Sun accessories are your best friends (we’re talking sunglasses, umbrellas, and more)
  • Taking breaks to catch your breath
  • Embrace more indoor activities (Read our list for Riyadh and Jeddah)
  • Opt for lighter, healthier meals (heavier foods might slow you down and cause dehydration).
