King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has declared a public holiday in celebration of Saudi Arabia’s historic World Cup victory. Announced after the Green Falcons beat Argentina 2-1 on Tuesday, Wednesday November 23 will be marked with a public holiday.
This is in line with the recommendation from Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
As reported by the Saudi Gazette, there will be a public holiday for employees in both the public and private sectors. Schools will also close for the public holiday. Work and education will resume as normal on Thursday November 24.

In their opening game of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Green Falcons defeated Lionel Messi’s team, Argentina, in a surprise victory. The two time World Champions were beaten during both team’s first match in the group stages during a gripping match that took place at Lusail Stadium in Qatar.
After Messi scored a penalty in the 7th minute to give Argentina an early lead, Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari scored for Saudi Arabia in the second half of the match.
