Don’t miss the epic Balad Beast festival
The beast is in town! Raising the roof, the music and arts festival, Balad Beast, is taking place on Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10. Landing inside the walls of Jeddah’s Old Town, known as al-Balad, the two-day fest will light up the neighbourhood’s iconic backdrop from noon to night. The epic line-up includes hip-hop rapper Busta Rhymes; British DJ Carl Cox; Fresh Prince of Bel Air star DJ Jazzy Jeff; Hustlin’ rapper Rick Ross; American singer Lupe Fiasco; techno musical duo Tale of Us; and hip-hop producer DJ Premier. Local DJs such as Cosmicat, Dish Dash, Baloo, Biirdperson, Arabstract, and Mishaal Tamer will also be raising the roof across the UNESCO-heritage sites.

Catch a groundbreaking film at Hayy Cinema
Hayy Jameel has launched Saudi Arabia’s first independent picturehouse in collaboration with Red Sea Film Festival. It will show films from the Kingdom, the Arab world and further afield that would not necessarily get screened in multiplexes to offer audiences in the Kingdom something new. As part of its official opening, Hayy Cinema’s opening programme will feature Egyptian master Youssef Chahine’s groundbreaking films on his approach to filmmaking during the 1970s through to the late 80s, and you can also check out an archival exhibition that highlights renowned photographer Gamal Fahmy’s contribution to the revolutionary force of filmmaking in the region.
