Saudi Arabia is set to open a museum of modern art
The aim is to develop Diriyah as a cultural tourist destination…
Culture vultures, you’re going to love this: In a move to strengthen the culture scene in the country, the Kingdom is going to build an art museum called Saudi Museum of Modern Art.
The project is a collaboration between the Saudi Ministry of Culture and the Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) and comes as part of developing the town as a cultural, recreational and tourism centre which will help boost tourism to the country.

The museum will be located on the outskirts of the capital Riyadh in the Al-Bujairi neighbourhood of Ad-Diriyah – a site known for its unique architectural style.
Don’t worry though, the museum won’t look out of place or ruin the beautiful landscape of the area, as its’ exterior will also reflect this traditional local architecture with just a touch of modern design.
The site is also home to vast palm plantations and it is opposite the historic Al-Turaif neighbourhood, which has been listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.
It fits in perfectly with the country’s plan to make Diriyah “an open destination for the world, rich in discovery, and encouraging creative artistic expression.”
As excited as we are, however, at the moment, this is the only information available. We are awaiting details to be released at to when the museum is expected to be ready, what exhibits will be on display, the architect, and more.
We will let you know the details as soon as we do!
