Formerly known as the Pan-Arab Games, the event is a regional multi-sport event hosted held between the Arab nations. The games are organised by the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees, and the first-ever ones took place in 1953 in Alexandria, Egypt.
The news comes after Saudi Arabia walked away with 45 medals from this year’s games in Algeria. Saudi athletes won seven gold, nine silver and 29 bronze medals in 17 sports altogether including 14 Olympic and three Paralympic games breaking its previous record of 45 medals in the 2011 Doha games according to Arab News
